What is the DOW Red Stick Rumble (RSR)?RedStickRumble

The DOW Red Stick Rumble is an off-season FIRST Robotics Competition and a General Robotics Festival. It is the first of its kind being offered in Louisiana and offers FIRST Robotics teams from around the country an opportunity to experience the rich culture of Louisiana while participating in an intense rematch of the previous season’s game. The mission of the Red Stick Rumble is two-fold. First, it is to provide FIRST Robotics Teams with a high-quality,  off-season competitive event that allows teams of all strengths to develop their skills, recruit new members, and network with both old and new friends. Secondly it is to provide the community an opportunity to see the benefits of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics that is brought to our community by robotics programs.

Where is the DOW Red Stick Rumble located?

The DOW Red Stick Rumble is located at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, only a short drive from Interstate 10 and Interstate 12. Built in 2003, Woodlawn High School provides both a gym for the pit as well as the competition field and can hold 1,500 people in the competition gym at one time.

When is the DOW Red Stick Rumble held?

The DOW Red Stick Rumble is held within the month of August. The exact date is largely based on both Woodlawn High School’s gym availability and more importantly the LSU Tigers football schedule. This year (2017), the competition will be held on August 25th and 26th with August 25th being an optional practice day for teams.

Who can come and how much does it cost to attend the DOW Red Stick Rumble?

Any team that is part of the FIRST Robotics Competition can attend the Red Stick Rumble regardless of skill level. We are looking for teams that are powerhouses, teams that are developing, and rookie teams. Our hope is that in this less official setup that every team will be able to learn from one another. The cost of registering a team to compete in the Red Stick Rumble is $300 per team. Registration
Admission to the public is FREE and doors public admissions opens at 8AM.

Do the rules remain the same as during the official FIRST competition?

The DOW Red Stick Rumble will follow the latest set of rules posted by the Game Design Committee prior to the Championship in St. Louis. Their are only two exceptions to this. First, the top 8 seeded teams will not be allowed to select from among themselves. This will allow for a greater diversity in the competition pool. Secondly, we will be allowing alliances to select their own backup alliance member during eliminations. Any changes to this policy will be reflected first in our Blog, Facebook, and Twitter pages.
