22 Days and Counting

Hello FIRSTers!

The Red Stick Rumble is getting closer and closer and we are getting more excited for when you all arrive. As schools around our area get back into session, we are looking to add even more teams to our current 15. Our goal is a modest 24 teams but we would love to have 30 or more. Maybe you could help us. If you know people that are on other teams, please call and let them know about the competition. Remember, 24 teams is needed at minimum to have a full set of elimination matches.

In the next week we should have the pit map up and running as well as a layout of how the field and all will be setup. We also wanted to remind teams that while you can arrive on Friday, it is not mandatory to do so. Friday merely provides your team time to connect your robot to the field and practice. If you cannot send your entire team that day, we will gladly help whoever can arrive to get your robot and your pit ready to go for Saturday.

We will provide more information in a week or so. Until then – I hope you are as excited as we are.

Warmest,
Daniel L. Eiland

The Heat of Summer

Hello FIRSTers!

Its been a great summer so far as we get ready for the Red Stick Rumble. Many things are coming together and we are getting more excited as the date draws near. You will notice that our tentative agenda has been posted on the website (http://www.redstickrumble.org). We are also finalizing the food details and I can tell you what you will be seeing in two words: FOOD TRUCKS!! For those that don’t know, Baton Rouge has a growing community of Food Trucks that serves all different types of food for your palate.

While we currently have 12 teams registered, we are still looking for another 12 so please invite someone to come along with you. Remind them that they can register on the website and pay later. We realize that many teams have to be in school in order to get the funding that they need.

More details will be published as they arrive. For now, we can’t wait to see YOU at the Rumble!

Early Registration

Hello FIRSTers,

It’s been a little over a month since we began this journey towards hosting the Red Stick Rumble. We have 10 teams registered from Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, and are more than excited about where our event is going. Don’t forget that the early registration pricing of $200.00 ends June 15th, 2013. The cost of registration will be $250.00 after that date. I will be posting new details over the next month or so.

We hope that you will be at the rumble with us.

The First Day of Registration

Hello FIRSTers!

We cannot be more excited by the response that we’ve had so far. In the first day of registration, we had three teams register. This is amazing considering how new our event is and how many teams are still trying to recoup funding after a hard fought season.

We are looking forward to seeing many teams at the Rumble. One question was posed on Chief Delphi that I wanted to take a moment to answer here as well. While the event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, teams may definitely come in on Saturday morning. We plan to use Friday as a day for practice and perhaps a few exhibition matches for our local high-school, middle schools, and elementary schools. We would also like to setup an event or two for Friday night so that teams can get to know each other better.

As stated in our mission statement, our primary purpose is to provide the many teams of the Bayou Regional area and beyond a place to grow their team through networking and extra competition. We are still a relatively new region and our best resource is each other.

Please continue to register and I hope to see you all at the Rumble!

All the Best,

A Change in Date

Hello FIRSTers!

One thing that we’ve learned very early on in preparing for the Red Stick Rumble is that we always have to expect change. This time it came in the form of a request. Without realizing it, our event scheduled on September 13th and 14th also fell during the time of Yom Kippur, a very important holy day for those of the Jewish faith. Initially, we did not believe we were going to be able to reschedule, but after a bit of work and a lot of luck we managed to move the event back to the 30th and 31st of August.

We hope that this move will not adversely affect any teams, but we are happy that those FIRST members who are of the Jewish faith will be able to attend our event.

Remember, registration opens on the 29th of April. The first five teams will receive a refund of $50.00 towards their registration and those who register and pay before June 15th will only pay $200.00 instead of the $250.00 regular registration fee.

We look forward to seeing you at the rumble!

Warmest Regards,

Names, Dates, and Other Information

Hello FIRSTers!

We are proud to announce that the Red Stick Rumble will be held on September 13rd and 14th, 2013 at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We have the field reserved, the space locked, and are beginning work on getting some amazing sponsors and visiting dignitaries. While I cannot announce anything specific as of yet, our hope is to bring as many famous FIRSTers as we can.

Registration for the event starts on April 29th, 2013 and will remain open until September 1st. Teams who register before June 15th will pay the early registration fee of $200.00. Afterwards, the price of registration will be $250.00.

But wait. . . there’s more.

We will refund $50.00 of the registration price for the first 5 teams to sign-up for the event. This means that your team will be playing for only $150.00. That’s over a $100.00 savings compared to regular registration and only 3% of the cost that you’d pay to register for an official FIRST event. Amazing. I know.

Registration can be paid by both check or Paypal. We can only guarantee registration to the first 25 teams. You can register at our website: http://www.redstickrumble.org.

One last item of note: Please follow our Facebook page or our Twitter page or  for the most up to date information.

 All the best.

Welcome

Hello all,

Welcome to the Red Stick Rumble’s blog site. We will be using this blog page to keep you updated through the planning stages of the Red Stick Rumble, Louisiana’s first FRC Offseason event. We hope to make this event the premier place for southern teams to come compete once regionals and the summer break is over. Our mission is to provide a competition that is less formal but just as intense as an FRC regional and to allow teams to refine their ability to compete before the next season.

Right now, details are a bit scarce. We are tentatively planning on hosting our first event on August 24th, 2013 at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We will have a full FRC field and volunteer crew and plan on adding a few events to spice up the day. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
